Showing gratitude in the workplace this Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving approaching, we’ve got gratitude on our minds. The Global Sessions crew is busy planning unforgettable holiday parties with many of our clients as a way to show appreciation for their team’s hard work throughout the year, and others are already looking ahead to offsites that will unite their groups in 2020.

In our many years of creating impactful team building experiences, the experts we’ve brought in have shared many ways to show gratitude. One of our all-time favorites is the Five Minute Journal. Its simple, structured format is easy to follow, with sections like ‘list three amazing things that happened today,’ and reflecting on questions like ‘how could you have made today better?’

“Oftentimes we wake up in the morning, and our minds are full of what we have to do that day, our minds are full of stress and doubt,” explains health coach Tim Saur, who has introduced the journaling method to some of our team building groups. “It’s a tool that’s going to help you start your day with gratitude, with purpose, with positivity, and in the long run it’s going to be very powerful in your life.”

The Five Minute Journal’s format is based on positive psychology research, and a proven way to focus on the good in your life and live with intention. Here are a few more things we’re grateful for at Global Sessions:

“What brings me joy is that we still live up to the values we defined when shaping Global Sessions, particularly when it comes to instilling play and fun into our work lives and the companies we engage with. This could mean a midday ping-pong match, a “board meeting” with the Global Sessions crew on a powder day, or seeing the effect a fun and playful afternoon can have on a team. Bringing play back into our lives is one of the secrets to happiness and building relationships.”
-Aaron Sales, Co-Founder

“I am grateful for a team that believes in helping make people’s lives happier and healthier. I am grateful to be working in a space that encourages open dialogue, creative thought and playfulness. I am grateful for our team mascot Kodak [Aaron’s border collie] and his easy demeanor, reminding us in those more stressful moments to take a breath and enjoy life’s opportunities. Lastly, I’m grateful for our amazing clients, many of whom have become friends, and their commitment to creating happy and healthy work environments for their teams and companies.”
-Matt Sweeting, Co-Founder

“I’m grateful for the value we place on maintaining personal friendships within the Global Sessions team. I have worked in many environments where that was not the case, and I can say without a doubt that working on a team with trust, care and camaraderie means more than just a lot of fun.”
